Composing Improvisation: a Workshop with Christian Burns

This three-hour workshop led by Christian Burns will focus on strategies for approaching improvisation as real-time composition that encourages presence, responsiveness, and connections with both space and other people.

Dancers and movers of all levels are welcome. Together, we will explore curiosity, action, listening, functional movement, and art-making.

ABOUT CHRISTIAN BURNS

Christian is a teaching artist, performer, and choreographer. Some of his collaborators include: Hope Mohr, Bobbie Jene Smith, Alessio Silvestrin, Chris Aiken, Ray Chung, Eric Beauschsne, Shinichi Iova-Koga, and Kirstie Simon. He danced for James Sewell Ballet and Alonzo King Lines Ballet, was a guest artist with The Forsythe Company, and co-founded/directed The Foundry. He is a long-standing faculty member of the Alonzo King Lines Ballet Training Program, an Adjunct Professor for Lines Ballet BFA at Dominican University, and in 2023 was a Guest Lecturer at Stanford University.
