We believe that telling and receiving a story is a potent act of shared empathy. Our favorite kind of show is one that invites you to laugh, cry, and feel more than you ever expected.

What we do:

Our history:

Sharp & Fine creates devised dance theater performances that use storytelling to provoke empathy and instigate transformation. Our work combines exuberant choreography, physical rigor, spoken text, live music, and surreal imagery that ignites the imagination and frees the audience to discover their own meaning.

We believe storytelling is a powerful tool for envisioning and creating pieces of the world as you wish it to be. For us, that means bringing together good people and making the space, time, and questions that help us become a group that cares fiercely, tries boldly, and is never afraid of being outrageously silly. How else can we make new stories that even attempt to say something worth listening to?

Founded in 2011 by sisters Megan and Shannon Kurashige, S&F has produced eight original evening-length works in San Francisco. S&F has been commissioned and presented by Kunoichi Productions, Robert Moses' KIN, U.S./Japan Cultural Trade Network, Oakland Ballet, Gardens of Golden Gate Park, RAWdance, the Merde Project, FACT/SF, and Soundwave.

"Authentic, diverse movement, provocative staging, poetic and vivid wordplay, and a haunting score comprise a satisfying, sometimes thrilling, wholly original package."- San Francisco Examiner
